Papyrus

The payrus plant grows in the fresh Nile water, it has long roots and stems. The ancient Egyptians used its stems to make mats, baskets & of course papyrus.

The outer green skin is taken off, then the internal part is cut into thin strips, the slices hammered to squeeze water out, then the strips are left in water for 6 days till they become transparent and flexible.

The strips are then cut to the required length, then placed between two pieces of cotton horizontally and vertically and then press them. The cardboard is changed every 8 hours till its completely dry over a period of 6 days.

Now it's ready to be used for painting, writing, drawing.
